Summer Camps

In all FFA summer camps, campers will spend the first day reviewing camp rules and expectations, getting to know their education center and filling out a survey of their level of knowledge and skill. All campers should arrive each day in camp clothes and bring a swimsuit, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, lunch, snacks and a drink.
Boating Camp
Held at the Riviera Beach Marina at 200 E. 13th Street, campers attending the week-long Boating Camp will learn these valuable lessons:
•Introduction to different types of fishing crafts, such as kayaks, jon boats and sailboats and how to operate and navigate them
•Boating safety – camp staff gives presentation of boating and water safety
•Review boating safety workbook and prepare for the state exam
•Practice boating – oaring and trolling motor operation
Fishing Camp
Held at the Riviera Beach Marina at 200 E. 13th Street, campers attending the week-long Fishing Camp will learn these valuable lessons:
•Fishing safety
•Fish Facts - fish identification, distinguishing characteristics, habitats, feeding preferences and bag limits
•Tackle - rod & reel assembly, types of tackle, types of knots, how to select tackle for specific species of fish and maintenance of tackle
•Casting - how to cast several types of reels
•Bait - types of live bait, how to catch bait (cast net, dip net), artificial bait
•Fishing - how to fish (species specific), catch and release techniques, fish stringers and cooler use and hands-on fishing
•Fish Biology – description of fisheries management techniques and local fisheries projects
•Scientific procedures - fish dissection and otolith removal for aging
•Fish cleaning - scaling, skinning and filleting
•Fishing tournament - boat and shore categories and categories for different species of fish
Kayak Camp
Held at the Riviera Beach Marina at 200 E. 13th Street, campers attending the week-long Kayak Camp will learn these valuable lessons:
•Kayak safety
•Paddling techniques
•Capsize recovery
•Guided tour to peanut Island
•Explore our waterways
Snorkeling Camp
Held at the Riviera Beach Marina at 200 E. 13th Street, campers attending the week-long Snorkeling Camp will learn these valuable lessons:
•Snorkeling Safety
•Aquatic food chain - use dip nets for collection of organisms for magnifier box and stereoscope observation, aquatic plant identification, wading birds and reptiles
•Hands-on activities on Peanut Island make it fun for students to learn about the natural environment
Deep Sea Fishing and Exploration
Held daily aboard the academy's custom-built, 38-foot Fastwater cabin cruiser, which is docked at the Riviera Beach Marina at 200 E. 13th Street, Deep Sea Fishing and Exploration Camp is our most popular camp offering. We will also be offering this camp at Boynton during weeks 5 and 7. Because space is limited, spots fill up fast. Campers attending this week-long camp will learn these valuable lessons and participate in these activities:
•Boating safety
•Deep-sea fishing on the academy’s vessel
•Trip to Munyon Island or out to sea snorkeling (depending on the weather)
•Drift fishing for snapper, grouper, kingfish and cobia
•Trolling for tuna, dolphin and wahoo
